Independent software consulting

Two decades of engineering. Amplified by AI.

I'm looking for new projects worth building. With 20+ years across .NET, cloud and data, plus today's AI tooling, I can get productive on almost any stack, and I'm accountable for every line.

Industry focus Custom apparel manufacturing & distribution: ERP, warehouse, shipping, EDI & drop-ship

What I build

New products, platforms and tools, designed to be reliable and scalable from day one. I adapt quickly to unfamiliar environments and like hard problems.

New products & platforms

Web apps, APIs, desktop applications and Windows services on .NET, .NET Core and ASP.NET MVC, from first prototype to production.

Cloud-native systems

AWS and Kubernetes: containerized services and infrastructure that scale without a babysitter.

Data & integration

SQL Server design and performance, services that connect systems (WCF, REST), and migrations that don't lose data.

Desktop & internal tools

WPF clients and line-of-business tools your team actually wants to use.

Troubleshooting

Unfamiliar systems, thin documentation, real stakes. I find the root cause and fix it without making things worse.

Unfamiliar territory

New language, framework or domain? AI-assisted development gets me productive fast. Two decades of judgment keep it sound, and your code and data stay confidential.

  • .NET Core
  • C#
  • ASP.NET MVC
  • WPF
  • WCF

Track record

More than 20 years inside custom apparel manufacturing and distribution, keeping the ERP, warehouse, shipping and EDI systems working together, and keeping old systems safe while connecting them to new ones.

20+ years

A legacy ERP, kept alive

Kept a heavily customized Dynamics AX 3.0 running and evolving for more than two decades.

Security & compliance

Up to payment processors' standards

Extended the system to meet payment processors' security requirements as they tightened.

Modern APIs

Old ERP, new web APIs

Integrated the 2000s-era ERP with modern web APIs, so the business never had to wait for a rewrite.

.NET companions

What AX can't do alone

Built supplemental .NET applications and services for everything the ERP couldn't handle on its own because of its age.

SQL Server 2005

A large database, still fast

Administered SQL Server 2005 and kept a large database, built up over many years, performing well.

EDI & drop-ship

Connected to the channels orders come from

Built EDI and drop-ship integrations with SPS Commerce, Rithum and CommerceHub, plus an ATG Commerce web store.

Shipping

Carrier labels and manifests, straight from the ERP

Integrated the ERP with FedEx, UPS, USPS, OnTrac and Amazon Shipping so the warehouse prints carrier labels and manifests packages. First built on the carriers' XML web services, then rebuilt on their modern REST APIs as the carriers retired the old ones.

Interesting projects get a discount

Every project starts at my standard rate. If yours is interesting, it costs less, and the more interesting it is, the bigger the discount.

Fascinating

Something new I'd want to build anyway: a novel idea, an unsolved problem, a chance to try something.

Biggest discount

Interesting

A real puzzle in it: new technology, a tricky integration, a hard performance problem.

Discounted rate

Standard

Solid, necessary work: maintenance, support, well-understood builds.

Standard rate

Whatever the rate: it's fixed in a short written scope before work starts, it doesn't change if the work gets dull, and every project gets the same care.

So tell me what makes your project interesting. It really does lower the price.

Also available

Still running legacy Dynamics AX?

New projects are my focus, but I still help companies that depend on legacy Dynamics AX (Axapta), especially AX 3.0. I know it deeply, and few people still do. I can modernize, secure and recover your system with minimal disruption while the business keeps running: urgent fixes, data repair, X++ customization and integrations.

Planning your move off AX? That's a new project, and it may well qualify for the discount.

Ask about legacy AX

How it works

  1. Pitch me

Tell me what you need and what makes it interesting. A few sentences is plenty.

  2. Honest answer

Within a business day: whether I'm in, the rate, and a time-boxed first step.

  3. Build & hand off

AI-accelerated, and I'm accountable for every line: tested end to end, documented, and yours to own.

About

I'm Robert Budkevich, founder of Tekfora LLC. For more than two decades I've built and maintained software in complex technical environments, most of it in custom apparel manufacturing and distribution, where the stakes are real and the documentation is thin. My focus is resilient, efficient technology that lets a business focus on growth rather than technical limitations.

These days I pair that experience with AI-assisted development. It widens what one experienced engineer can take on, so I spend my time on new projects I find genuinely interesting, and I still help the companies that rely on legacy Dynamics AX. Based in Arizona, working with clients anywhere.
